This academic year, Halliford School is marking its Centenary, and at the centre of their celebrations was the construction of their new Woodward Building, which officially opened in November. This new building houses an amazing new Learning Resource Centre on the ground floor, offering students the very latest in collaborative working spaces and superb library facilities. Above this and overlooking the sports field are six bright and spacious new classrooms and associated staff offices, home to the School’s English and History Departments.
The ethos of Halliford School is founded on being a smaller school where students are well known to the staff and one another and treated very much as individuals as part of their warm-hearted school community. Therefore, the governing body has been keen to maintain the School’s size yet provide their students with the best possible facilities on the school site.
Teacher of History, Mrs Wilbraham, commented, “It is such a joy to be working in this beautiful new space. The huge windows in my classroom mean that we are flooded with sunlight even on an overcast January day, and the views over the field and surrounding roads are just spectacular. Every detail has been carefully thought through – my favourite design element has to be the sliding whiteboards enclosing the classroom screen, which brilliantly merges old and new technologies.”
Sheridan, Becca, Gurleen and Sean in Upper Sixth are thoroughly enjoying the new building, which is home to their tutor group. They all agreed, “We love the windows and the bright lighting. Everything is so new and fresh, and it just lifts your mood coming into the form room. We have so much more space than before so we can spread out, and it’s good to have a quiet space of our own to study at busy times.”
James Davies, Headmaster at Halliford School, said, “The Woodward Building offers state-of-the-art modern facilities for our students and provides exciting, stimulating spaces for them to work collaboratively with our new Learning Resource Centre at the heart of the school site. It is wonderful to see our students enjoying this new space, and we very much look forward to welcoming members of the community to see the new development. To celebrate the opening of our superb new space in our Centenary year, we gifted the students with a commemorative glass paperweight, a gift for them to keep which will remind them of this memorable time in the School’s rich history.”
