Exclamations of joy were heard at St Augustine’s Priory this morning as eager pupils reviewed their A Level results! One such pupil, Darya Abassi Gomez, was excited at being accepted into University College London (UCL), her first choice to study Global Humanitarian Studies. Darya commented “I loved the support given at St Augustine's Priory and feel proud to embark on my degree”. After graduating, Darya has aspirations to work on sustainability projects internationally. Darya’s father spoke of his pride and gratitude towards staff for their role in helping his daughter to realise her potential.
“We are delighted with this year’s A Level results”, commented Mrs Christine Macallister, Headteacher of St Augustine’s Priory, Ealing Catholic independent school for girls. “A total of 26% of all grades were A* and 59% of all grades were A* - A. This is simply a tremendous achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students as well as the unwavering bespoke support from our staff. In addition, 82% of all grades were A* - B and 97% of grades were A* - C.”
These results, together with the students’ personal achievements, have enabled them to progress to some of the country’s leading universities, including University College London (UCL), the University of Exeter and the University of Leeds. Students will study a variety of subjects from Computer Science to Drama, Law to Journalism and over 90% of students are going to their first-choice university.
Pupil, Amelia Szczurek, shared her joy and relief upon successfully obtaining her position to undertake a degree in Law with European Studies at the University of Exeter. In Amelia’s words “I loved the A level subject choices available at St Augustine’s”.
Today has been a day of celebration as staff joined with outgoing Year 13 students and their families to enjoy their success. Special mention must go to Julia Szewczyk, Megan Ransome and former Head Girl Marija Vincic, who achieved all A*/A grades.
There were also outstanding results in several individual subjects and congratulations to the following departments which achieved all A*/A grades: Art, Chemistry, Computer Science, Drama, Psychology, Spanish and Russian.,
Marija Vincic, outgoing Head Girl, remarked, “St Augustine’s Priory is unique in that, being a small school, staff know you really well”. Marija will now begin a Language and Culture degree at University College London (UCL). Marija's older sister came along in support, also a former St Augustine’s pupil who has just graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in English Literature form St Mary’s University.
Mrs Macallister added, “Our mission statement is loud and clear when it says that ‘Our Girls will Change the World’ and our wonderful Year 13 leavers are prime examples of young women who embrace all that learning can offer. I feel deeply proud to be part of our students’ educational journey and I wish them all a wonderful future as they embark on their university careers. Congratulations to them all!
