Last week it was announced that Floyd Steadman OBE had been appointed to be one of the five new Deputy Lieutenants for Cornwall.
Mr Steadman has strong ties to Ealing; for many years he was Executive Head at Clifton Lodge School and serves as a Governor at St Augustine’s Priory, Ealing Catholic independent day school for girls. His rugby career is well known; former captain of Saracens FC and Middlesex County RFU, he also played for the Barbarians and London Division.
Appointed an OBE in the King’s first New Year’s Honours list in 2023 for services to rugby, education and charity, this new honour will see Floyd Steadman supporting the Lord Lieutenant in Cornwall, and sometimes deputising for him. The Lord Lieutenants are representatives of the King for each county in the UK and, with Mr Steadman’s expertise in education and sport, he will be an immense asset to the life of Cornwall.
On his appointment, Floyd Steadman commented, ‘I can’t believe this! It is a huge honour and privilege to support the King’s representative for Cornwall.’
St Augustine’s Priory commented, ‘Floyd Steadman is an incredible man, bringing enthusiasm, knowledge and a deep integrity to everything in which he is involved. We are delighted for him and wish him great success in this new, additional role’.
