Westholme School pupils are celebrating a bumper year after scoring nearly 40 trophies and medals in the 2022 Blackburn Festival of Speech, Music and Dance.
Over 60 pupils from Westholme School joined young people from across the county to perform in the region’s historic festival, which was founded in Blackburn in 1945.
Hosted by Westholme School for over a decade, pupils had the valuable opportunity to perform in the school’s impressive Croston Theatre - one of the largest school theatres in the country.
Dr Richard Robson, Principal of Westholme School, said: “Westholme School is always honoured to host Blackburn’s historic Speech and Music Festival and witness so many young people enjoying the challenge of competing in such a creative event.
“Westholme places great emphasis on the importance of delivering a holistic education and providing opportunities for children to develop the essential 21st century skills such as communication, confidence, creativity and leadership.
“We have a market-leading Performing Arts department and were thrilled that so many pupils felt they wanted to take part. Their successes are testament to the many hours of practice by our talented pupils and dedicated professional coaches and teachers.”
Pupils’ achievements were celebrated in a special whole school assembly with live performances, certificate presentations and the chance for Prep pupils to join with the Senior students and receive their prizes from invited guest, the Chair of the Blackburn Festival, Mrs Debbie Northin.
Dr Robson added: “From September 2022, we open the door of our new purpose-built Prep School which will enable all pupils from 4-18 years to be educated on one site and benefit from a seamless first-class educational journey. As we approach our centenary year in 2023, this is a momentous time to be part of the Westholme family.”
