Pupils at The Royal School in Haslemere are thrilled to celebrate their outstanding GCSE success! Almost one-quarter of Royal pupils achieved the highest grade of 9 in their GCSE subjects, and 58% of all grades were awarded grades 9 to 7. The school is particularly proud of this, given its ongoing commitment to mixed-ability education.
Over 50% achieved a grade 9 to 8 in English. 47% of pupils secured grades 9 to 7 in Maths, while 62% achieved 9 to 7 in Further Maths. In Science, 31 % attained a grade 9. Modern language results have once again been impressive, with 56% of pupils achieving a grade 9 in French.
Pupils cited the small classes, specialist teachers, high-quality personalised curriculum, and expert study skills workshops for their success. Their hard work and the support of an excellent parent body have culminated in the most wonderful outcomes for our pupils.
The school's top achievers include Peter, who received an impressive 11 grade 9s and the highest Drama GCSE score in the country. Rufus achieved an outstanding 10 grade 9s, and George closely followed with 9 grade 9s and 1 grade 8, earning almost full marks in Further Maths. Ellie achieved 7 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and was particularly impressive in Geography.
High achiever, Peter began his journey at The Royal in the nursery. Over the last 15 years, he has grown into a remarkable young man who has excelled across all areas of school life, including extra-curricular clubs and societies, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, sports, music, and drama productions.
"I want to thank all my teachers, in particular Mr Taylor-Gooby, Head of Drama, who, over the years, has continuously encouraged me to explore and challenge myself in the creative space. Drama has helped build my confidence and understand human emotions by analysing characters and scripts. The sense of community at the school has created an environment of healthy competition and lifelong friendships."
George will study Maths, Chemistry, and Physics at A levels. Here's what he had to say about his time at The Royal School: "The smaller classes and the environment here have helped me achieve these results. Everyone knows each other, and everyone is rooting for you. School-based revision classes in the lead-up to the exams were also helpful. I was more productive than at home, and they pushed me to achieve my very best."
When Ellie joined Year 9, she was a fantastic addition to the cohort. A true all-rounder, Ellie achieved excellent results, made valuable contributions to the school and triumphed as a county rugby player.
"I am happy with my exam results and thank the Royal School for allowing me to take 11 GCSEs and adjusting the timetable to accommodate this. Balancing club rugby, county rugby, work, and the silver and bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award was challenging, but achieving these results made it all worthwhile. I am grateful to the teachers who organised lunchtime and after-school revision sessions, and I congratulate my fellow Year 11 classmates on their excellent results."
Paul Norman, Headmaster at The Royal School, expressed, "I am immensely proud of our pupils, who have diligently embraced our Future Ready approach to education. They have showcased the right mindset and have consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience, perseverance, self-reflection, initiative, creativity, and collaboration in their academic pursuits."
As a boarding school, The Royal attracts pupils worldwide, creating a rich and diverse culture for all its pupils. It offers language support and a customised one-year GCSE course for those who speak English as a second language. Today, our international pupils have successfully completed their one-year GCSE course and will proceed into our Sixth Form to pursue their A levels.
