“This season we have exceeded expectations in bucket loads. This term we have seen every Leweston boy (who has opted for hockey) participate in fixtures. The boys have invested heavily in the programme, and we thank them for their contributions this season. We have been entirely performance driven once again and have instilled an attitude of ‘never give up and never be intimidated’. This has brought about a marked improvement on last year’s results. The U14 and U15 have once again qualified for the regional finals, with the seniors just missing out by one goal. The U15s managed to finish in a very credible 6th place in the whole of the South West, most impressively, they were playing in the U16 tournament. The 1st XI have put in some excellent performances this season and have experienced victory in over three quarters of their games – much improved on last year. They are now playing with huge confidence, and I urge you to come and watch them play, they are playing with pace and power.
With ever improving teams come exceptional players. Ben H and Alfie C were both selected for Dorset U16 Hockey. Ben has been entirely committed to Leweston Hockey, appearing at Girls’ training, Goalkeeper training and any other opportunity where he can hit a ball! What is very impressive is that he his hockey experience started at Leweston, not yet featuring for a club, and we have seen him come on leaps and bounds. Alfie came to us with some more experience, however he has shown some fantastic leadership skills this season and is the lynchpin of our most successful team. The future of Leweston 1st XI is very bright.
We must also thank all our hockey staff for their energy, dynamism and unrelenting care of our pupils. The hours it takes to orchestrate a team and ensure they make progress is huge!
The KS3 teams have once again punched above their weight. The U12s have experienced huge success this year, while the U13s have made huge progress in amongst an incredibly challenging fixture card with some local prep schools frequently featuring in national finals. The U13 and U12 teams have not yet lost a match to ‘senior schools’ which we tend to play on Saturdays, a good indicator of progress. The days of people asking ‘Does Leweston have boys?’ are well and truly over. Well done boys – you have done the school, staff and yourselves very proud.”
