Fiona Johnson, teacher at St Augustine’s Priory, Ealing Catholic Independent school for girls, is this week celebrating an incredible achievement. On Sunday 8th October, as a member of a relay team of five, the SwimSolutions Starfish team, she swam the English Channel from Dover to Calais. The team completed the swim in sixteen hours and six minutes. Each swimmer in the team took it in turns to swim for an hour and then jump back on the pilot boat to warm up, eat and rest before jumping in to swim again!
Ms Johnson’s achievement is even more extraordinary bearing in mind she completed the cross-continental swim across the Bosphorus in August. Her colleagues at St Augustine’s Priory are in turns both delighted and impressed, with one commenting, ‘Fiona is truly inspirational. With only two years training, to take on this challenge and succeed shows such determination. We’re in awe!’
So many of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and the swim was held in aid of Breast Cancer Now, and the JustGiving fundraising page can be found at: https://www.justgiving.com/team/swimsolutionsstarfish
