Prep pupils at Westholme School were delighted to receive a letter from the Monarch after writing letters to congratulate the new King and Queen on their coronation.
The youngsters, aged 4 to 11, received a card, signed by the King and Queen, from Buckingham Palace.
It read: “We were deeply touched by your most kind and thoughtful message following our Coronation. We are enormously grateful to everyone who took part in the celebrations, and particularly appreciate that you so generously took the time to write to us on this very special occasion.”
Accompanying the card, featuring a photograph of the newly anointed couple, was a letter written by the Head of Royal Correspondence, which read: “The King has asked me to thank you for your very kind letters, sent in celebration of ‘Their Majesties’ Coronation.
“The King was interested to hear that Westholme School recently celebrated its centenary and would have me convey his warmest good wishes to all of the pupils and staff.
“His Majesty hopes you enjoyed the events that you had planned to mark this important anniversary, as well as those in honour of the Coronation.”
Emma Robson, Prep Academic Assistant Head, said: “The children were thrilled to receive a reply from the Palace. The beautifully written letters from the pupils celebrated a true milestone in their history – which happened to coincide with Westholme’s centenary celebrations. From everyone on behalf of Westholme School, we would like to wish the King and Queen a long and prosperous reign."
