Local talent Edie Barwick, a Year 13 Performing Arts Scholar at Surbiton High School, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a coveted place on a brand-new, three-year course, ‘BA Acting (Musical Theatre) at the prestigious Italia Conti Conservatoire.
Known for her captivating performances on stage, Edie has been a familiar face in the local community. From her early roles in Surbiton High School productions to her standout performances in various musicals and plays, Edie has demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication to her craft.
Edie is an exceptional A-Level Drama student who has performed in many Surbiton High School productions over the years. She first gained a role in the ensemble for our annual musical in 2018's ‘Wind in the Willows’ She only had one other role in the ensemble with 2019's ‘Chicago’ before gaining the female Lead of Audrey in 2021's ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.
Throughout her time at Surbiton High Sixth Form, Edie continued to impress with her versatility, portraying characters such as Emmitt in 'Legally Blonde' and the beloved tragic figure Nancy in 'Oliver!,' earning praise from seasoned professionals and audience members alike.
One particularly touching moment occurred when a grandmother of one of Edie's fellow Surbiton High School pupils, who had portrayed 'Nancy' in the first West End revival of 'Oliver!' in the early 1960s, commended Edie as a sensational talent across various aspects of musical theatre.
Beyond her school commitments, Edie's passion for the performing arts extends into the local community. Engaging in activities such as Stagecoach sessions and participating in singing festivals, Edie's dedication to her craft has made her a shining example of local talent.
