Three talented performers from St Columba's College enjoyed great success at the District Final of the 2022 Rotary Young Musician Competition on Sunday 27 March.
Cormac Moroney-Lewis and Finley Roberts took part in the Vocalist category and Easa Aleem took part in the Musical Instrument category. They competed against students from all over Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire in the District Final after succeeding in local heats.
Cormac, 17 who is a Sixth Form student at St Columba’s, delivered an amazing performance to win the Vocalist category. He will now take part in the Regional Final on 23 April at Chelmsford Cathedral, where he will perform alongside other District champions.
Mr Scott McCall, Director of Music at St Columba's College said: "The standard of competitors this year was extremely high, and all three boys performed incredibly well. Finley displayed a huge vocal range, and Easa’s musicianship at the piano was specifically complimented by the piano-specialist judge. Cormac’s energetic performance was selected by the judges from a very strong field."
The Rotary Young Musician Competition is organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I). There are three stages to the competition, each designed to support and encourage the development of musical talent.
The competition is open to all levels, grades and styles of young instrumentalists and vocalists, and it aims to offer young people the experience of performing on a public stage and an opportunity to showcase their musical talent. Contestants also benefit from impartial feedback and assessment of their performance by experienced adjudicators.
