Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire – Our Lady’s Abingdon has recorded another successful year of A-level results.
Almost half of all students achieved at least one A-Level at grade A or above, with 5% of students achieving A*-A across all of their subjects. Students have performed well in all 22 Sixth Form courses, including 19 A-levels, EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and BTEC Media.
Students continue to perform at a very high level in Creative Arts. For example, all A-Level Art students achieved A*. Similarly, students performed exceptionally well in Design Technology, and also in Drama, Economics and Geography. Special congratulations must be given to Head of School Eleanor and fellow prefect Sophie who both achieved straight A*-A’s.
Above the national average, 80% of OLA students have secured their first choice of university at a range of top Russell Group universities, including Cardiff, Leeds and York. The diversity of our students is reflected in their subject choices which include Biochemistry, Business, Cyber Security, Ecology, Engineering, Law and Sport.
OLA has a diverse range of students, some of whom have additional needs, and it is a testament to the strong relationships between students and teachers that each and every individual is able to fulfil their potential.
Commenting on the results Head of OLA, Daniel Gibbons said:
“We continue to live out our core purpose of “To each according to their needs”, and we are very proud of each individual student and all that they achieve, both in and out of the classroom. All students at all levels of ability have performed to their potential in their A-levels, and we wish them the very best for their futures, whether it is at university or in the workplace.”

OLA (Our Lady’s Abingdon) is a Catholic Independent Co-educational Day School for 7 -18s
Welcoming all faiths and none, offering a highly successful fun and innovative learning experience in a happy and friendly community.
The school’s success comes from a combination of key factors which create the unique OLA learning adventure:
• Small school: With under 400 pupils in total, OLA offers everyone the possibility of representing the school in a wide range of confidence-developing activities, including sport, drama, music, academic competitions and other chances to thrive, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
• Small classes: We have a very high teacher to pupil ratio, meaning our class sizes are smaller than you will find elsewhere. OLA provides a more individual learning experience that fully nurtures academic potential.
• Fun and innovative learning: Helps pupils to be fully engaged in the academic life of the school leading to exam results that regularly exceed pupil baseline predications. Find out more about our exam results.
• Highly praised pastoral care: Our staff work closely alongside our pupils to encourage, motivate and support each child, helping them to grow as confident, successful and happy individuals.
• Family community: OLA encourages an open dialogue between home and school through a range of effective channels.
• Catholic Christian ethos: This is the foundation of everything we do, creating the family community so valued by OLA parents. The school accepts children of all faiths and none and helps them aspire to such values as integrity, compassion, openness, forgiveness, reconciliation, co-operation and courage.
