Pupils at Westholme School are delighted to receive a reply from their favourite Disney characters after writing to wish the company a happy centenary.
The school, which has just celebrated 100 years since opening its doors in Blackburn, created a special Disney-themed postcard to send.
The beautifully handwritten postcards were sent by the Prep pupils to the Orlando and California resorts along with a covering letter – and just a few weeks later they received a letter from Mickey Mouse himself!
The letter opens with: “Oh boy, thanks for all the swell letters. It was so nice of you to think of me and my pals.”
Emma Robson, Prep Academic Assistant Head, said: “We all love Disney films, resorts and animations (even our Principal, Dr Robson!) and have been finding out about the Studios’ centenary in lessons.
“The pupils are delighted to receive a letter from Mickey and his friends which states how lucky they are to have such special friends like the children.
“Hearing from the characters has been a very special way to mark Westholme’s very own centenary year.”
Westholme School was opened on 19 April 1923 by two inspiring young women - Miss Emily Singleton and Miss Ivy Richmond - just a few months before The Walt Disney Company was born.
The Pleasington school has a year-long programme of events to mark its special milestone – from centenary lunches for alumni, a gala ball, special guests, fireworks night and centenary merchandise – including their very own limited-edition Westholme Gin, available from the school.
