Royal School pupils from Year 3 to 7 took part in a series of workshops with renowned climate fiction author, Sarah Holding, in December. Previously a judge in the United Learning StorySLAM competition, Sarah was really impressed with the high standard of writing from The Royal. Kinvara, who came second in the southern StorySLAM final last year and is now in Year 7, was delighted to work with Sarah again.
Year 6 pupils have been studying Sarah's novel SeaBEAN and are writing a chapter in the style of the author. It was an amazing opportunity to get bespoke feedback from the author herself! Prep 5 were introduced to SeaBEAN and did some character writing, while Years 3 and 4 focused on poetry in their workshop.
Mrs Clare Mee, Deputy Head at The Royal Prep School, said, “A fantastic day was had by all. We always encourage the children to say ‘yes’ to opportunities and this is a great example of the benefit of being part of United Learning - a storytelling competition leading to like-minded people meeting and then working together to create more opportunities for our pupils. I am really looking forward to developing the relationship between Sarah and The Royal.”
