Westholme students have had the opportunity to quiz stars of the stage – after holding two Musical Theatre workshops at the top Lancashire independent school.
The Blackburn-based school, which offers students an unrivalled holistic experience, welcomed musical theatre performer Amy Whittle, who starred in ‘Cats’ the musical European and International tours.
Students also welcomed renowned West End stage performer Jodie Steele, who worked with the school’s ‘Fame’ cast, who will be performing within their very own Croston Theatre in March.
The special guests were arranged by Westholme’s Director of Performing Arts, Amy Holland.
Both guests coached the students about acting, auditions and all things show business. They told the students what it was like working in the industry, giving an insight into what it’s like to be part of a touring production – and what you do on a typical day from waking up to rehearsals and learning the choreography.
Amy Whittle informed told the students that each of the Cats had to do their own make-up before every show and showed them a video of how she did this!
She worked with 35 lucky dance students who were selected to take part for the full-day workshop. They learnt some original choreography from the show’s ‘Jellicle Ball’ number and sang and danced.
Jodie, who has starred in West End hits such as Heathers, Wicked, Six the Musical, Hair and Fame, worked with around 50 students who had successfully auditioned for Westholme’s production of Fame.
Director of Performing Arts Amy Holland said: “The theatre and facilities here at Westholme are exceptional and giving students the opportunity to learn from people who earn a living in the industry is something that not every school can offer.
“Our special guests have first-hand experience of being on stage. The students loved the opportunity to ask them questions and enjoyed meeting people from the industry.”
This year Westholme added a Dance GCSE to their options, and plan to introduce a Dance A-Level next year – bringing this art form further into the spotlight at the school.
Dr Robson added: “Here at Westholme School, we encourage all students to excel both academically and within creative subjects. We want all students to embrace their skills, hobbies and interests to ensure that each individual is well rounded is prepared holistically for the 21st century workplace”
